Lightning has struck twice! Last year, about this same time, I was stoked and honored to have been able to do a gig poster for one of our favorite bands The Elovaters. In a "just like last time" sorta way, we got the email for the upcoming dates and Texas was right at the start of March, and more importantly for those of us that are "crowd adverse", NOT during South By Southwest in Austin. So I sent off an email to the same fine folks I sent an email off to last time and asked, "Hey, can I?" and again, they said,"Maybe, let's see something". So I scribbled some sketches and sent them their way, got some direction, tightened things up, and nailed em down, before I knew it, everyone said,"Cool!", then, EVEN better, I got asked, "Hey, the guys were wondering if it would be possible to use this for all the Texas dates?". "Um...yes...yes, that would be possible! Are you freaking kidding me?!?!" I thought. "Sure, that'll be cool" I said. "They thought it would look cool on foil too, what do you think?". "If that's what they want, sounds good to me." Wow! Mind sufficiently blown.
Got the work done pretty quickly and sent off to The Elovater's management, it was a foreverishly long wait until March.
March 5th FINALLY gets here. We got to Emo's in Austin at our scheduled time. Not gonna lie, it's not a bad feeling tell a person with a clipboard,"I'm on the list, for 2", and not only are you there, but they KNOW you're there. All things considered, Austin's show this year was MUCH chillier than the show in Dallas last year. The venue, venue staff, crowd, everyone...locked in the chill zone, the way music and its surroundings should be. Once inside we lined up for the meet and greet with the band. The folks we met while waiting were just as stoked and buzzed as we were to be there. When our turn came up the guys were just as friendly and gracious as they'd been the year before. My cynical side always wants to take something away from these sorts of events, "they're just being nice to everyone, it's part of the job", but I wasn't gonna let that happen. Last year, I was drowning in imposter syndrome while the pics were being taking. This year I allowed myself to enjoy the moment. It feels much better when you do.
I borrowed this pic from Facebook. Fellow Shark/Show attendee Matt Mitcham posted it on the Elovated Ones Elovaters Facebook fan page. (thanks Matt!) I'm digging the frame he went with. The foil print has a different look than what I was imagining the paper to look like, but I REALLY dig it. STOKED!

HUGE THANKS to The Elovaters, their management & crew, Emo's staff, the RAD "Sharks" we met, and MOST especially my heart & soul, the magical, mystical Mrs. MMS. Love you babe!
GOOD TIMES!
